On January 2, 2021, the TV anime adaptation of Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie was announced via Pocket Magazine’s official Twitter & website. Later on October 1, 2021, the main staff and cast of the series were announced by its official website along with teaser visuals. It has been revealed that Doga Kobo would be animating the series which would be directed by Ryouta Itou. Later in December, a new key visual of Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san was also released.

Shikimori’s not Just a Cutie, aka Kawaii Dake Ja Nai Shikimori-san, is an original romantic comedy manga series written & illustrated by Keigo Maki. It was first published by Kodansha, on Magazine Pocket on February 2, 2019, and is still ongoing. The manga has completed a total of 130 chapters & 10 volumes, & the release of its 11th volume is scheduled for January 7, 2022. Very few people know that this manga was first self-published by its author on Twitter back in September 2018, under a slightly different title Kawaii dake ja Nai Onnanoko.
Kawaii Dake Ja Nai Shikimori-san: Plot Details
The story of this anime follows a cute high school couple, Izumi Yuu & Shikimori Micchon.
Ever since Izumi’s birth, his life was riddled with misfortunes like it was a curse, the same thing happened to his mother. His memories are filled with accidents and problems, and sometimes, even close to death experiences.
Accepting his fate, he continued his troublesome life in high school. But everything changed when he fell in love & started dating Shikimori. She is cute and adorable and Izumi is more than happy to have her on his side. However, it wasn’t her cute side that swept his heart. Whenever he is about to fall into danger or any accident Shikimori rescues him in the coolest way possible, and that’s how he finds out that his girlfriend isn’t just cute.
