Most of the people who have watched the series have become its fan. But there is still one question on every fan’s mind: What does Jujutsu Kaisen mean? Continue reading this article to know the answer.
What Does Jujutsu Kaisen Mean?
The term Jujutsu is very much similar to the name of close-up combat martial art practiced in Japan, which is Jiu-Jitsu. It was used in feudal times to fight with the enemy with a clear advantage of armor or protection. But this style is so dangerous that the simplest outcome of any attack of this style focuses on locks, joints, pins & throws, which could result in a lifetime disability.
Though Jujutsu Kaisen does go around that way, its Kanji is just different from it.
Kanji is a type of script used in Japan derived from the archaic Mandarin, which has different characters for everything. As a result, it has some synonyms and homonyms that may seem and sound alike but have different characters.
Jujutsu (呪術廻戦), on the other hand, is a hypernym which means Sorcery or Curse, which is the main plotline of the show. Kaisen, however, is a bit of a “made up” word. If it goes by the original Kanji name of the show, it goes as 廻, meaning “Wander or Roam around,” and the next character is 戦 which means “War or fight .” So the word pretty much sums up to Curse war or Sorcery war or Sorcery Battle.
But this name was not expected to click with viewers much, and hence the makers decided to use the best possible name for the series that is “Jujutsu Kaisen.” The anime is all set to return to the screens with a prequel movie titled Jujutsu Kaisen 0. This upcoming film will feature the events that take place before the timeline of the anime’s debut season. Yuta Okkutsu, another powerful sorcerer, will be the lead character in this movie that will hit theaters on December 24, 2021.
