Demon Slayer is one of the most famous animanga. The manga already concluded whereas the anime continues to amaze fans with every single installment. The Kimetsu no Yaiba series has a lot of intriguing characters. Some of them were given a good amount of screen time whereas some appeared only for a brief time. Tanjiro’s father Tanjurou Kamado was one of those characters who caught everyone’s attention but didn’t get enough screen time.
Tanjurou’s father was the person who taught him the Sun Breathing, aka Hinokami Kagura. This fact led many fans to believe that Tanjiro’s father was also a demon slayer and that too a Hashira. Who was Tanjuro Kamado?
Tanjurou Kamado was the father of Nezuko and Tanjirou Kamado. He died quite early due to the illness, and after him, Tanjirou took the responsibility for his family along with his mother. Tanjurou has pale and dull skin due to illness, and a big scar on his forehead. Due to his appearance, many fans believed that he was the very person who appeared in the flashbacks of Muzan. Muzan once fought a man who almost defeated him. He was the only person Muzan was scared of. However, Tanjurou wasn’t that guy. The demon slayer who almost defeated Muzan Yoriichi Tsugikuni.
Is Tanjurou a Descendant of Yoriichi?
Yoriichi was the first person who used the Breathing technique. He was born with the ability to use the “Transparent World” technique. It allows him to see the world or his opponents in X-ray vision. The breathing technique used by Yoriichi was the dance of the Sun/Fire God, which was later renowned as the Hinokami Kagura. It was the very dance Tanjurou taught Tanjirou.
Yoriichi wasn’t related to the Kamado household by blood. But, he was a friend of the ancestors of Tanjirou. During his time, Yoriichi met Sumiyoshi and Suyako Kamado. The couple really appreciated Yoriichi’s efforts as a demon slayer. Yoriichi met their daughter, and with their permission, he played with her. When the founder of the breathing technique was about to leave, Suyako asked him to perform the Hinokami Kagura dance.
Initially, Yoriichi hesitated a bit, but then he agreed to perform the dance. Yoriichi performed all the 13 levels of the Sun Dance swiftly. Sumiyoshi was quite impressed by the moves of Yoriichi, and hence he instantly memorized all the dance steps and began to practice them as well. Before parting ways, Yoriichi gave his Hanafuda earrings to the Kamado couple as his memento. The Kamado household passed down the earrings and the Hinokami Kagura dance from generation to generation. Hence, they eventually reached the generation of Tanjurou and he passed it down to his son Tanjirou Kamado. That’s how Tanjirou got the Hanafuda earrings and learned Sun Breathing.
Is Tanjoro’s Dad a Demon Slayer?
The answer to this question is a simple “No.” Tanjiro’s father, Tanjurou Kamado, wasn’t a demon slayer. He was an ordinary man who succumbed to his illness. His somewhat similar appearance and his connection to the Fire God dance made many fans believe that he was also a Hashira. He wasn’t a member of the demon slayer corps but that doesn’t mean that he was weak. Tanjurou was also able to use the Transparent World just like Yoriichi. Not only that but he always remains in a selfless state. As a result, he does not feel anger, hatred, or fear no matter what the situation is. He also has immense stamina and endurance. Once, he even defeated an enormous bear with quite an ease which clearly shows the talent and skills of Tanjurou Kamado.
Why does Tanjurou Have Scar on His Forehead?
Later in the Demon Slayer series, it was revealed that the Demon Slayer mark (the forehead scar) only appears after an immense amount of training and that too is when the body temperature becomes high. However, Tanjirou had the mark since his birth just like his father. Tanjirou’s dad wasn’t a demon slayer but he still had the mark. It is because of his connection with the Fire God technique. The forehead scar appears on all the Sun Breathing users, and that’s the very reason Tanjurou and Tanjiro have the same scar as Yoriichi.
How did Tanjurou Die?
The Demon Slayer series didn’t feature the death of Tanjurou Kamado, but it is believed that he died sometime before Muzan Kibutsuji slaughtered his family. Some fans even believed that Muzan himself killed Tanjurou. However, the majority of the fandom believed that he succumbed to his illness. Tanjurou managed to inspire Tanjiro before his death, and hence the latter aspired to become just like his father. Tanjiro even tried to use the selfless state just like his father in one of the most important battles of the series.
