Hunter X Hunter Manga Returning After 4 Years Hiatus
Hunter X Hunter manga is finally returning to serialization on Shonen Jump after 4 years long hiatus.
Shonen Jump Twitter account shared the good news with Hunter x Hunter fans worldwide. On 11th October 2022 the account, “Major announcement!!! Hunter x Hunter returns Oct 23! Brand new simul pub chapters are coming to Shonen Jump!”
Hunter × Hunter is an original manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi on Weekly Shonen Jump. Started in March 1998, the manga released 390 chapters and collected 37 volumes until November 2018.
With its return on October 23, the manga will end its hiatus which lasted for almost 4 years. After its last chapter was released, the manga went on an indefinite break due to its writer Yoshihiro Togashi’s health issues.
The return was on the horizon after Yoshiro Togashi revealed to Shonen Jump in May this year that he has been working on new chapters for the series. Togashi kept providing further updates on his Twitter account and even said that he has completed the manuscript for 7 new chapters.
Chapter 391 of the manga will actually release on Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump on October 24 in Japan. However, the difference in time zones, Viz Media will release the chapters a day early in other countries.
Hunter X Hunter series also has an anime adaptation produced by Nippon Animation and directed by Kazuhiro Furushi. 62 episodes of anime series aired from October 1999 to March 2001. The studio also produces 30 OVAs between 2002 to 2004.
But looking at the series’ popularity, Madhouse reanimated and produced a new Hunter x Hunter anime series. The new series aired 148 episodes from October 2011 to September 2014, along with two movies in 2013. This series was later discontinued due to insufficient material.
