Hortensia Saga Season 2: Will Series Return After CliffHanger?

Fans always crave good action series and look up to war ethics, which the series Hortensia Saga gave to its watchers. The series is an action fantasy-filled with awesome action and drama. Hortensia Saga: Ao no Kishidan is an original RPG developed by F4Samurai & Sega. It was first launched for Android and iOS in Japan on April 22nd, 2015. The game got a manga adaptation which was published by Media Factory. The manga was illustrated by Pon Jea & Seiji. The manga started serializing on March 27th, 2020 and has collected two volumes so far.
On December 27th, 2019, it was announced that the game is also getting an anime adaptation by studio Liden Films. Hortensia Saga’s inaugural season was directed by Yasuto Nishikata & it ran for 12 episodes from January 7th, 2021 to March 25th, 2021.
Will There Be Hortensia Saga Season 2?
As mentioned earlier, Hortensia Saga’s first season ended with a cliffhanger. So, will the series return to complete the storyline? The answer is probably no. The anime took some brutal criticism on its way too conventional storyline with a disappointing good ending.
Alfred getting revived was a mood-breaker for many fans who were not so fond of a lenient ending, which killed the entire war point of the show. The series entirely covered the game plot, though the anime did bait fans for another season in the end.
However, the studio will think twice before doing this as it didn’t even get a good rating. The anime was scored 5.79 by 12k members, and it is very disappointing for a show like this.
Plot Details
The story of Hortensia Saga follows Alfred Ober, who lost his father in a Hortensia kingdom’s cold war led by Duke Rugis. Maurice, the knight who survived this destruction after losing his brother, finds Alfred and gives him his father’s sword.
Maurice takes in Alfred as a pupil and trains him to become a strong knight who can protect the kingdom. Their journey is accompanied by strong & splendid warriors and their struggles.
The second season of Hortensia Saga can have the same internal conflict. But this time Alfred won’t be on the good side. By breaking the taboo, the princess brought Alfred back to life, which if revealed could break the kingdom again & Alfred will face the aftermath.
Hortensia Saga Season 2 Release Date
Taking everything into account fans need to prepare themselves for a very long wait for good news because of two reasons. The first one is the poor reception which makes this series as good as dropped if it fails to redeem itself until the manga ends. The reception of manga can play a big role in the revival of the series in many ways, like altering the story or continuing as canon from where the game ends.
If manga manages to reserve a good spot among rankings and awards, the continuation won’t be difficult but that would require a lot of time. The second possible way is just continuing the series from the ending that was teased by the creators in the last episode of its debut season.
But then, there’s a high chance that the sequel will probably be a movie or an OVA which doesn’t require much funding for the production. So, Hortensia Saga could possibly return in early 2023 or fans might even have to wait till 2025.
