Hand Shakers Season 2: Can Series Return After Poor Response?
Hand Shaker is one of those anime that “could’ve been better,” but fans are not very lenient on it.
The series follows a different storyline which is not everyone’s cup of tea. As a result, only a few were able to develop a liking for this series. However, some viewers think that the storyline and animation of this anime have the potential to turn into a great show. The fans already got a sequel in the form of W’z, and now they’re expecting another one in the form of Hand Shakers Season 2. So, is there any chance for it to return? More details ahead.
About The Series
On March 20th, 2016, on the occasion of the 30th-anniversary chain stores of Animate, Kadokawa publication, studio GoHands & Frontier Works came together and announced an original anime series.
The series was directed by Shingo Suzuki and written by Hiromitsu Kanazawa & premiered on January 10th, 2017, and aired 12 episodes along with a Special OVA which ended on March 28th, 2017.
There is also a Light Novel adaptation of 2 volumes and 23 chapters, written by Yanagi Tamazo and illustrated by Uchida Takayuki. It was published from January 25th, 2017 to April 25th, 2017.
After two years, a sequel of the anime was announced, which aired from January 5th, 2019 to March 30th, 2019 & aired episodes along with an OVA.
Will There Be Hand Shakers Season 2?
Bluntly put, probably no.
But why though? Fans already know the answer to this question. It was the animation and staid story progression. The series tried to stand out with the idea of using 2D and 3D hybrid animation at the same time but chroma laying on the series and action scenes disappointed fans on a whole another level.
The first season ended after Koyori was saved and the second season came up with a new MC and different world which is set 10 years after the Tazuna victory.
It was not the first time 3DCG has dug its fang in a good story. It already happened with a show like Ex-Arm which started good but in the end fell victim to it. Critics & fans harshly criticized the series and gave the series a score of 5.29 on the MAL group. But, the show is quite popular and is ranked at #1713 on the popularity poll.
Still, the chances of Hand Shakers Season 2 hitting the screens are very low.
Plot Details
The story of Hand Shakers follows a high schooler Tazuna Takatsuki, who has a knack to fix things. On certain days, he visits an academy where he meets Koyori Akutagawa.
She is always bedridden and ill, watching her Tazuna think back about her dead sister and grasp Tazuna’s hands, and unknowingly activates his power of Hand Shaker. Now, Koyori’s life is Tanazuna’s hands, if she is ever to let go of him she’ll die.
In order to save her life, they travel to the realm of Ziggurat, where many Hand Shakers are assembled and fight with each other to meet God, and the winner will get their one wish fullied.
Hand Shakers Season 2: Release Date
Now, fans have gotten the idea why the series next season is in the tough spot. Also over many years, the series is ignored and long-forgotten. If the series would’ve managed to hog even a single manga adaptation, then the creators might have considered the sequel. But now, no studio or production house will probably be brave enough to bet their funds on Hand Shakers Season 2. Hence, for the sequel of the anime fans need to give all-out support to the anime again.
