Koji Yamamura’s Dozens of North Wins Buncheon International Animation Festival 2022

Dozens of North (Ikuta No Kita) 2021, an animated movie by Oscar-nominated director Koji Yamamura has won the Jury Award at Buncheon International Animation Festival 2022.

The award is the latest in growing list of awards that movie has won in International Competition For Feature Films. The other awards won by Dozens of North are as below:

  • Grand Prize for Feature Animation at the Ottawa International Film Festival (OIAF) 2022 
  • The Excellence award at the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in March 2022
  • The Contrechamp award at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2022

Dozens of North is based on Yamamura’s own illustrations and texts on Japan’s Earthquake in 2011. These illustrations were published in the monthly literary magazine “Bungaku-Kai” between 2012 to 2014. Yamamura has managed to build the narrative of this 64-minute-long movie around the 32 issues of the magazine.

Koji Yamamura is an Academy Award nominated artist for his short “Mount Head” in 2003. He also won the Prix Klingsor award for Lifetime Achievement during the 16th Biennial Of Animation Bratislava function in Slovakia on 9th October.

The Biennial of Animation is the longest-running festival of animated films in Slovakia. The committee was established in 1985, and it attained international film festival accreditation in 1991.
